About us
The gallery is dedicated to the art of self-taught visual artists. It houses a unique collection of artworks created in parallel with—and in the shadow of—“official” art production from the 1950s to the present.
It was founded in 1971 with the aim of preserving and exhibiting works created at the Meeting of Naïve Artists Trebnje, which have been held annually since 1986.
With its collection, the gallery plays an important role in preserving both Slovenian and global cultural heritage.

Origins and History
For more than four decades, the Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje has been Slovenia’s central institution for naive art, collecting, preserving, exhibiting, documenting and communicating the naive art of Slovenia with the rest of the world.
The Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje is the largest and the only gallery in Slovenia that systematically collects, researches, and exhibits works by naïve and self-taught artists from Slovenia and around the world. It offers visitors the opportunity to explore a unique collection of artworks created alongside and in the shadow of the “official” art production from the 1950s to the present day.
The gallery was founded in 1971 with the purpose of preserving and exhibiting works created during the International Meeting of Naïve Artists Trebnje, which have traditionally taken place in Trebnje every year since 1968.
At first, the gallery was located in the parish building in Trebnje. Since 2004, however, it has been housed in a building in the town centre at Goliev trg 1, Trebnje.
The Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje operates as Slovenia’s central institution for naïve and self-taught art. Its work is supported by local and visiting experts as well as by the gallery’s professional advisory board.
The entire collection includes around 1,500 artworks by more than 360 artists. In terms of both scope and quality, it ranks among the most important collections of naïve art in Europe.
The gallery spaces are intended for permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as various cultural events. The Gallery of Naïve Artists also serves as an official wedding venue of the Administrative Unit of Trebnje.

The gallery is also the official wedding venue of the Municipality of Trebnje, where you can enhance your special day with an artistic ambiance and an unforgettable atmosphere.
